Munawar Faruqui has become one of the most prominent names in Indian comedy and television. His journey took a remarkable turn after his participation in Bigg Boss 17, where his popularity soared. By the time he stepped out of the show in January 2024, his fan following had multiplied, and his personal life began attracting as much attention as his professional achievements. Soon after, Munawar surprised everyone by marrying makeup artist Mehzabeen Abdul Rehman, marking a new chapter in his life.
Munawar Faruqui on Why He Decided to Marry
In a conversation with Prakhar Gupta on his YouTube channel, Munawar shared how his decision to marry came during a time when he was surrounded by fame and attention.
“I was getting unlimited attention after Bigg Boss, and in that moment, I was thinking, ‘What am I even doing? I only want to be loved by one person and I want a family. This is the right time that I should get married.”
His marriage to Mehzabeen came as a surprise to many, as she entered his life after Bigg Boss and the couple tied the knot just three months later.
“She came into my life and we decided to get married, and after that, we fell in love. I am very blessed and I am so happy that I made that decision.”
Building a Family Together
Munawar had been married earlier and has a son, Mikael, from his first marriage. Mehzabeen too was married before and has a daughter, Samaira. Now, the two are raising their children together and have blended their families. Munawar has often spoken about what he has learned from his wife, particularly her practical approach to parenting.
“I have learnt the art of valuing people from her. She knows how to value others. The way she takes care of the kids… it’s not like she showers them with unlimited love. No, she is very practical and believes that some things are not okay for a child.”
Sharing an anecdote, Munawar recalled an argument that revealed her parenting wisdom.
“I was telling her that if the kid is asking for water, don’t make him wait like this. She said, yes, he is provided with water whenever he wants, but this won’t always be the situation. It is important to prepare kids for whatever might happen.”
He admitted that her perspective made him realize the importance of preparing children for life’s realities.
Overcoming Heartbreak and Finding Healing
Before finding stability with Mehzabeen, Munawar went through a phase of heartbreak and pain. Reflecting on those times, he admitted-
“After that experience in my life, I was behaving like a villain. I started hating the world. I felt everyone was selfish and everything was temporary. Mentally, I was in that place.”
He added that for him, faith was a source of healing-
“When you talk about therapy, I know that namaz is therapy.”
Munawar Faruqui’s Childhood Struggles
Behind his success lies a story of resilience shaped by a difficult childhood. Munawar has openly spoken about his mother’s struggles during her 22-year-long marriage. She endured hardships without receiving appreciation from her family. At the age of 13, Munawar faced the greatest tragedy of his life when his mother took her own life.
“Someone woke me up in the morning and told me that she was in the hospital. When I reached there, I found out that my family refused to tell anyone that she had taken poison. She was shifted to the ER immediately, but passed away.”
Munawar revealed he was not allowed to grieve properly.
“They didn’t let me process my mother’s passing. The very next morning after she was gone, they handed me a bunch of tasks and said, ‘don’t cry.’ They made me responsible for everything and told me that I had to be strong. I remember pretending that everything was normal, even during the last rites. I was crying inside, but none of that came out.”

Complicated Relationship With His Father
Munawar also spoke about his strained relationship with his father. After his mother’s passing, his father suffered a paralytic attack, leaving 80 percent of his body paralysed for 11 years. Munawar admitted he initially saw his father as a villain, but time changed his perspective.
“You start telling yourself that he did something wrong, but he got something for it too; he’s suffering as well. How do I hate this person? He doesn’t have anyone besides you. That situation made me forgiving, and then you keep letting go of everything, and nothing affects you anymore.”
